Tongariro National Park Panorama (Day 3)
Day three…
I had visions of photographing Mt Ruapehu from beside the Tukino Access road reflected in a large pond which is often there in the winter. The problem I had was that said pond was half empty and what remained of it was a sludgy icy mess, it wasn’t reflecting anything but disappointment.
However, to the right I could see an interesting sky forming above Ngauruhoe and Tongariro and found myself faced with a dilemma. Should I stay where I was or should I dash back to where I’d been the day before and try and re-take the same image, witness the full blast of light from the car on the way, arrive late, photograph nothing, jump off cliff…
I chose to stay where I was and put together a panorama of the two mountains. I must have stood there for over an hour clicking away as the sky slowly developed but was rewarded with a very dramatic light show and cold feet.
