Throwback Thursday 30/10/14 - Portrait of a Lion

Lion Portrait. - 300mm | 1/200th sec | f7.1 | ISO400

I've decided to do a post every Thursday where I'll dig through my photo library and post an older picture that I either haven't posted before or had quite simply forgotten about. There's two reasons for this; one, it'll mean more regular and varied posts (my last was a month ago, eek!) and two, it'll force me to look through older images and maybe discover a few gem that I'd forgotten about/disregarded originally. It'll also give me a chance to do a few re-edits that I see fit.

I've started with this shot of a very smug looking male lion at the Masai Mara in Kenya, it was finding this picture that gave me the idea.

I'd spent most of our time in Africa (certainly all the times where there was a chance of seeing Lions) wanting to get a good portrait of a male lion but was never presented with the right opportunity. Turns out I'd already taken a pretty damn good one on only our third day in Africa (and first full day on Safari) but just forgotten about it! Now, why is he looking so smug?

No prizes for guessing now. Would you look so happy if a jeep full of lions had just watched you getting it on?
