Rangitoto Island at Dawn.

Rangitoto Island at Dawn | 50mm | 15sec |f16 | ISO100

This shot was taken on the same outing as my previous image of Rangitoto at sunrise (you can see it here).

It was taken about 20 minutes before sunrise, when it was still nice and dark. The nice thing about shooting at this time (and just after sunset as well) is that the sky, and anything it's reflected in, like water, goes a whole bunch of bizarre colours. This means that by leaving the shutter open a long time, longer than the exposure meter in your camera suggests, you end up with an image that looks bright enough to be a daylight image painted by a watercolour artist who got their colours all mixed up.
